Sign with which a formula begins in Excel. equal to (=) sign
Three types of data a formula consists of: Values, Cell addresses, Functions
Three relational operators: Less than, Greater than, Equal to
Three logical operators: Logical AND, Logical OR, Logical NOT
Two arithmetic operators: Addition (+), Subtraction (-)
B Match the columns.
#### → Column is not wide enough to display the number
#NAME? → Excel does not recognize the text in a formula
#N/A → Data is not available
#VALUE! → Formula contains an invalid operation
#DIV/0! → Division by zero is being performed.
C Fill in the blanks.
An absolute reference is specified using $ sign along with the column and row number of the cell.
Arithmetic operators perform calculations with only numeric value.
Logical operators are used to compare two or more relational expressions.
Relational and Logical operators give result in true or false.
Compound formula requires more than one operator to perform a calculation.
D State whether the given statements are true or false.
Arithmetic operators give the result in true or false. FALSE
The user might get errors while performing calculations. TRUE
Mixed reference is a combination of relative reference and absolute reference. TRUE
The Divide function returns the sum total of the range values. FALSE
The MAX function returns the largest value in the given range. TRUE
E Write the steps to perform the following tasks.
Use a basic formula. By using only one type of operator in the formula.
Enter a compound formula. By using more than one type of operator in the formula.
Use circular reference. By using the same cell to enter the formula which is a part of the formula itself.
Use SUM and AVERAGE functions. =SUM(set of values) =AVERAGE(set of values)
Use LCM and GCD functions. =LCM(set of values) =GCD(set of values)
F Answer the following questions.
Differentiate between relative, absolute and mixed references. In relative reference, the formula changes according to the change in position of the cell pointer. In absolute reference, the cell is made constant by making both column and row constant. In mixed reference, either the column or the row is made constant.
How are functions different from formulas? Functions are predefined commands in Excel, whereas formulas are customized commands in Excel.
Define the commonly used functions in Excel. The SUM() function finds the sum of a set of values. The AVERAGE() function finds the average of a set of values.. The MAX() function finds the greatest number in a given set. The MIN() function finds the smallest number in a given set. The LCM() function finds the LCM of a set of values. The GCD() function finds the GCD of a set of values.
Enlist the rules to use functions. a. A function must begin with an equal to sign. b. A function name must be valid. c. A function name is followed by opening and closing parenthesis. d. Arguments should be enclosed within the parentheses.
Write the steps to insert a function. a. By directly inserting a function in a cell. b. By inserting a function using the Formula Bar. c. By using the Function Library group present in the Formulas tab.
